Okay so this is my very first chair redo! I scored both of these lovlies at an antique mall here in Texas for $50.00 for the pair. Yes a little steep BUT I couldn't resist AND I had been looking for chairs for like forever and a day so yeah, ya girl was getting a little desperate.
Anywho, because I'm completely awesome and I'm a genius, I didnt take any before pics. I hang my head in shame..But, once I realized that I had no proof of their ugliness before-which happend to be after I primed them with Kilz primer lol-I snapped a few pics.
Here they are naked:
Basically this is how I got started: I flipped the chairs upside down and unscrewed 4 screws that were holding the seat onto the base of the chair. Then, once I got the seat off, I took out the staples using a rare tool I like to call a phillips head. For the ones that wouldn't come off so easily, I used some needle nose pliers. It worked like a charm..
Then after that was all done, I saved the fabric to use as a template for my new fabric.
So back to the chairs, I took them to the garage and I primed them first with Kilz Primer which was a couple of bucks at Walmart
Then I let those babies dry for about an hour. Now here is the thing about this primer, it leaves a sandpapery feel to the surface so I had to lightly sand it with some 220 sandpaper I had to get the rough patches out. After that I was golden
After about an hour, I spray painted the chairs with the best teal blue EVER!!!! Krylon Ocean Breeze. I then glazed them with some Ralph Lauren Glaze I found at a thrift store-(totally random and yes I scooped it up) distressed it with some sandpaper again and this is what I came out with:
Yay me!! FINALLY, I went to Target, got a curtain panel in a cute red flower print and used the fabric to trace out the size for the cushion. I then stapled the fabric onto the cushion, screwed the nails back in and Voila! New Old chairs for my living room!!
What do ya think??
